How to Choose Flowers for Window Boxes

Window boxes are containers that you can hang outside your windows where you can plant flowers, preferably hanging type flowers. You can grow a variety of small to medium sized flowers. Acroclinium roseum: Immortelle Strawflower

The immortelle, also known as strawflower, is without a doubt one of the most satisfactory flowers for drying purposes. If you intend to dry them, it is best to cut them as soon as they have come into flower. Tie them in bunches, with stems from 12-24 in long, and hang them upside in a dry spot, preferably out-of-doors under the eaves. The faster the flowers dry, the longer – and better – they will retain their color. They often keep their color for years, by which time the bouquet will be dusty. Then it should be replaced for that reason if for no other.

The Multi-varied Petunia

In the tropical regions of South America, there are about 35 species of wild petunia. Several of the perennial petunias formed the starting point for all the cultivated plants so familiar in Europe nowadays. These cultivars, too, are basically perennials, but they are grown as annuals because they cannot stand any frost. More attention has recently been devoted to other species long forgotten by plant breeders. This has led to a new wave of petunias that are genuinely different.
