Fall Gardening Produces Excellent Vegetables and Crops
Most gardeners don’t do gardening during fall because they are afraid that winter will come in early. But there are gardeners who take the risks and consider fall gardening. But the truth is, in fall gardening, it produces excellent vegetables and crops. The produced vegetables in fall gardening is sometime sweeter and milder than those produced in summer. If you want a brand new taste of vegetables, then try fall gardening. Fall gardening will result in excellent vegetables.
In fall gardening, the crops, vegetables and plants that you want to grow depends on the availability of your space area and of course what you like to eat. There are spring plants who enjoys heat such as tomatoes, sweet potatoes, okra, and peppers still product even until winter hits. But there are summer vegetables like snap-beans, summer squash, and cucumbers quits at the end of summer.
In fall gardening, you must choose the vegetables with the shortest growing season so that these plants can be full grown and harvested before the frost arrives. When buying seeds, look at the label and choose “early season”.
But what is the best time to start fall gardening? This is a good question. First you must know when is the first hard frost that will hit your area. You can get this information by looking at the farmer’s almanac. Information about the exact dates are there. You must also know how long your vegetable or plants will mature.
After knowing the information you need, you get your soil ready for the fall gardening. You must remove the leftover spring/summer crops and weeds. You must spread compost a couple of inches over the garden so that it will increase the nutrients. After spreading the compost, you must till the top layer of the soil and let it set for about 12 to 24 hours. After you have done this, then you are set and ready for planting in your fall garden.
As what I ave said before, there are farmers that don’t want fall gardening because they don’t want to deal with the frost. But in fall gardening, you will enjoy the brand new taste of the vegetables that fall gardening will produce.
